"Tragic Collision Claims Life on Okija-Owerri Expressway: Urgent Call for Safer Driving Practices"



In a tragic incident along the Okija-Owerri Expressway in Anambra State, an unidentified woman lost her life, and two others sustained injuries in a collision between a Nissan commercial bus and a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep. According to eyewitnesses, the Pathfinder, driving against traffic from Okija, collided with the bus, causing it to lose control, tumble, and crash.

Confirming the accident, Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, attributed the crash to route violation and excessive speed. A total of 10 individuals were involved, with one female adult losing her life, one male adult and one female adult sustaining injuries, while seven emerged unhurt.

Before the FRSC rescue team arrived, community youths rushed the victims to F.S Kings Hospital in Umuohi Ihembosi. The deceased victim was placed in the hospital mortuary. The FRSC team managed traffic, cleared the crash site, and ensured the smooth flow of vehicles.

Expressing condolences, Sector Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi urged Anambra motorists to refrain from one-way driving, emphasizing the risks it poses. He also stressed the importance of adhering to safe speed limits to prevent accidents.
